Best places for Holi celebrations 2023 in India

I frequently travel to India, especially during the festive times, because the festival celebrations in this country are found nowhere else. The zeal, enthusiasm, togetherness, and fervor are just out of this world. Holi 2023 is around the corner. This time, it’s March 8, and I am double excited because it’s International Women’s Day too. However, keeping that aside, here are India’s Best places for Holi celebrations in 2023.

UP: Let me start with a place, Braj in UP, where the celebration is the longest in India. People in various parts of Braj celebrate the festival of colors for a whopping 50 days of enjoyment.

Mathura: A unique way to celebrate Holi in India is to visit Barsana, 50 Km from Mathura. The devotees get Ladoos (a sweet dish), marking the arrival of Lord Krishna and Radha. I read a legend that he used to tease Radha and her friends and thus also used to get chased away.

  • The next day in Mathura is Lathmar Holi, which celebrates the legend. Women hit men playfully with sticks, and the men used plates as shields.

People from nearby villages join in on the fun; I was also a part of it last year. But, unfortunately, I didn’t get to hit anyone with a stick; – ).

Vrindavan and Pushkar: Vrindavan, where legend has it that Lord Krishna spent his youth, celebrates by throwing flowers at each other, revitalizing brotherhood.

Jaipur: What I found interesting about celebrating Holi at the Pink City of Rajasthan was EleHoli at Eleday Elephant Sanctuary near Amber Fort (and you already know why I love forts). Here you can see giant but decorated elephants, which look very cute to me. I even clicked a picture with one last year.

Manipur: The enthusiasm for Holi is unmatched. I asked a local around, and he told me that It is a five-day festival, starting from worshiping Lord Krishna and burning a straw, then local boys and girls go door to door asking for customary money in traditional costumes.
