About Fatehpursikri
A great town planned by Akbar, Fatehpursikri was built in the honor of Saint Sheikh Salim Chisti. He was the one who blessed Akbar with his first son who want then his heir and later known as Jehangir. This town was originally named after the village sikri and then the twin city Fatehpur was founded. This place was known to be the one where Akbar could have all his control over the different parts of India. As this place is situated at a hill top it made it completely safe from all the rivals and enemies. There are a lot of different stories that speak out from this place but the real facts are still undiscovered.
Monuments / Historical Places / Sightseeing in Fatehpursiki
Diwan-i-aam is the first tourist place here which you should visit once you are at Fatehpursikri. This is a common hall for the audience and all the embassies are welcomed after their long journeys and all different sorts of performances and shown for entertainment. There are nine gates and Agra gate is one of gates which you will enter from. Here the various petitions from people are also heard and discussed about. At the western front is a royal balcony which is worth taking a look at as it depicts the classic Mughal era.
iwan-e-Khas is one another place to be visited and is situated just behind the Diwan-i-aam. The architecture and the sculpturing dome here is just so beautiful that they speak the Mughal era. Here at the center of the hall is a big column created with the stone material and it is said that this is the place where Akbar held all of his meetings and the other proceedings.
The Panch Mahal is also one great place that you can visit. Towards the west courtyard this is a five storied structure that further enhances the tourism in Fatehpursikri. For various different purposes and reasons this place has been divided into five different parts. One of which is part that belongs to the princess there and it also has a Pardah from which they can see whatever is going on in the palace as they were not suppose to come out so frequently.
A few really beautiful places which no tourist can afford to miss when they are on a tour to Fatehpursikri are the Rang Mahal, Todarmal Baradari, Samosa Mahal, Hiran Minar, Hathi Pol, the different Walls and Gateways, Mosque and tomb of Bahauddin and many more such places. Going around to such places and looking at the small intricate will help you get an idea about things during that period and will also depict a few facts about that era.

How to reach Fatehpursikri
Fatehpursikri is not much far to reach from a few cities around like it is approximately 40 kms away from Agra and you can also take a rail route for the same. If in case you are planning to go by air then the nearest airport which you can book your tickets for is the Kheria airport. This is also near Agra and it is then that you can take up a drive to the different breath taking architectural monuments and palaces here.
